2011 marks the 10th anniversary of NAISA’s Deep Wireless and SOUNDplay festivals and so it is an opportunity for NAISA to both reflect on the past and look ahead to the future. With this in mind, New Adventures in Sound Art invites artists of all ages and nationalities to submit works on the theme ABOUT TIME for consideration in New Adventures in Sound Art’s 2011 programming for its annual Deep Wireless, Sound Travels, and SOUNDplay festivals presented in Toronto, Canada.

Micro-Radio Transmitter building Workshop with Hector Centeno
July 6, 10 am - 1 pm, $55 (price includes parts for building micro-transmitter)
This workshop will let you experience what radio transmission is like by creating a transmitter that has a very small radius of transmission that could be developed into radio art and micro radio.
SOUND AS ART 2 Advanced Recording & Editing workshop by Darren Copeland
July 25, 10:30 am - 5 pm, $100
The workshop will further explore the sound materials developed in the Sound As Art 1 workshop in order to uncover in more detail their inherent sound generation and compositional possibilities. Key focal points for the workshop include composition strategies, non-linear sound processing techniques and the associative qualities of sounds.

The 12th annual Sound Travels Festival opens with two simultaneous SOUNDwalks co-presented by the Canadian Association for Sound Ecology (both at 1pm on Centre Island and beginning at the NAISA space, Artscape Wychwood Barns) and also coincides with the first World Listening Day - July 18 - the birthday of Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer, pioneer acoustic ecologist and director of the World Soundscape Project. Sound Travels continues with interactive installations, performances, a workshop intensive, 3-sided square (part of the New Music Marathon) and the Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium. Featured artists include: Marcelle Deschênes, David Eagle, Ned Bouhalassa, D. Andrew Stewart, Satoshi Morita, Rose Bolton, Rob Cruickshank, and more.

NAISA and the Canadian Electroacoustic Community present 3 days of paper sessions discussing electroacoustic sound art. The symposium presents a selection of refereed papers and presentations as well as a keynote lecture by visionary Québec composer Marcelle Deschênes.

The Sound Travels Intensive is an opportunity for artists from across Canada and around the world to create and present new work in Toronto, exchange ideas with others, and hone electroacoustic skills with the guidance of a diverse group of world-renowned instructors. Four intense days of workshop sessions, private instruction and creative activity culminate in a public concert presentation at Toronto's Artscape Wychwood Barns. Participants must apply by Thursday July 30 at 12 noon Toronto time to be eligible for a limited number of scholarship and billeting possibilities.
MAKING ART WITH SOUND

NAISA is inviting youth aged 15-18 to create art entirely with Sound, Radio, Electronics, and/or Performance through exploration according to their own individual interest - through building a NAISAtron, a micro-transmitter, or working with basic recording and editing software. All equipment will be provided by New Adventures in Sound Art and no experience is necessary. Limited spots available. Register now to guarantee your spot.

SOUNDplay is a meeting point for experimentation in sound art and new media encouraging new avenues for exploration.
