Festivals / Series

New Adventures in Sound Art’s exhibitions, performances, workshops and other activities are grouped around the following annual festivals and series, which include:

Art’s Birthday– an international celebration of the birth of Art on or near January 17th each year.

Deep Wireless Festival of Radio and Transmission Art – a celebration of radio and transmission art from January to March each year that includes performances, exhibitions, workshops, broadcasts and other special events.

Sound Travels Festival of Sound Art– annual summer event that includes performances, installations and concerts that cover electroacoustic music,  interactive sound art and on special occasions outdoor site-specific events.

Springscapes– soundscape-themed programming focusing primarily on the  transformation in the natural soundscape that happens every spring in the Near North. Presentations includes performances, installations, artist talks, 24 hour soundscape broadcasts and a weekend workshop intensive on soundscape recording.

SOUNDplay Series – a meeting point for experimentation in new media and sound art encouraging new fusions of image, sound and text in the fall of each year and includes installations, performances and workshops.

In the past, NAISA has also produced the following series:

NAISA Sound Bash Installation and Concert Series – based around an installation created out of everyday objects, especially selected for the interesting sounds they make when struck or played, the sound bash included a concert series that invited improvisors to perform using the installation.

Cross Waves series – a Canadian Sound Art series that included performances and internet radio programs curated by media artists representing various regional and cultural perspectives in Canada.
